Habitat
Deep diving whales? Why only deep diving whales? Well, it would be very unlikely for animals that were not deep divers to ever encounter the vampire squid. This is because it lives at depths about 1,800-3,500 ft! It lives in tropical and temperate oceans, and prefers a temperature of 2 to 6 degrees Celsius. They live in the oxygen minimum layer of the ocean where sunlight does not reach. Because of the lack of oxygen, its metabolic rate is the lowest and can transport more oxygen rich blood faster than all other cephalopods.
