Defense
As I mentioned earlier, the vampire squid has predators. Because of this it has developed defense mechanisms. The vampire squid is covered with light producing organs called photophores which let it light up and stop when it pleases by a chemical process called bioluminescense. It uses this as a defense mechanism to distract and confuse predators. Another way it defends itself is by getting into 'pineapple' or 'pumpkin' posture. The vampire squid will turn itself 'inside out' making it look larger and covered in sharp-looking though harmless spines called cirri. This will scare off predators. When threatened, the vampire squid will eject glow-in-the-dark mucus in order to confuse it's predators.
